Walnut Hardwood Flooring | Everything you need to know
My parents owned a 24 room victorian house and not one damned wall was square or plumb.
Front door jamb in house built in 1963 that I owned was 2" out from top to bottom...
Get it looking good, then take that scrapper.few little dings, little scratch. Helps it blend in.. That's what we do.
They actually didn't film home alone in that house. The inside of the house was a set built inside a high-school gym. They did use it for the facade, and i believe the sledding down the steps scene as well as the living room when Catherine O'Hara gets back to kevin at the end of the film. But 90% was filmed inside a closed down high-schools gym.
My guess. Its been reframed before.
Probably the best "fix" that can be done. Good luck with the rest. 😅
Why do I keep seeing videos of people working on their floors without taking the baseboards off?
I have pictures of the the welds on a 67 chevy. I swear the person had no idea what a welder was. Literally some of the worst welds I've ever seen. No cracks tho.
Rule number 1 never bring a level, you'll never leave 😂😂
Well, it's held up for that long... so why would you want to rip it out and re do it? 😂😂
Sister? On some new studs? Sister? Wow
1892 house here. Most of the effed up crap I’ve uncovered dates back to the 70s. The only other fun things have been finding all sorts of reclaimed material used in 1927 after a tornado.
Missed it by that much lol
My house was built in 1952 and I can confirm it was built by a bunch of assholes that had no business building a house.
Love buffing the stain on 👍
It survived a century and will keep on standing with a bit of love
You won’t get 50 out of new homes
Garrentee that that house was built square and solid for the times. Though shit happens.. ground settles over time.. owners delete or add stuff
damn lol you are spot on. i came from an area that was all new construction and i bought a house from 1921, this house is all kinds of WRONG
great fix btw!
Guys, plumb and square were an up charge back then as well!
Yea and that house will out last most new houses well at least it would have before you got a hold of it!!!!!!!!
The next guy in 50 years gonna be making the same video about your work 😂
The plumb cut on the 2x6 lol wow
In 10 years , someone will find your work and call you a hack
people are disgusting. how could the previous owners deal with the smell.
Hey my grandpa and uncles had to have built that house! Looks like their handy work… though the studs do go all the way down…
Old remodels are my favorite. I found so much cool stuff in the walls, floors, and ceilings. Old Waltham watch, beer cans, glass motor oil bottle (I thought it was a 40 at first), turtle shell clock, mummified cat, one on them old credit card things (you put the card and paper on then slide the thing over, and boom done), risque charades game, hospital booze decanter, and a pack of cigarettes that looked like they hadn't seen the light of day for 70 years (smoked them)
Great video! How thick is the plywood underneath? How thick is the oak going on top? My house is 1/2 ply on the joists then 3/4 particle on top. The particle board is shot. I am wondering if I can pull up the particle and replace with 3/4 oak flooring strips or replace the particle with 3/4 ply and the oak on top. Thank you in advance.
Americans sure like thwir stains... Why not just keep the woods natural color? If you want another color, use another type of wood...
Sometimes, doing lots of difficult repairs, can teach ya more than the big jobs.
What do you think if a drywall/plaster person does flooring/refinishing based on 5 minutes of UA-cam videos?
Complaining about a hack job then fixes it with a other hack job 🙄
Working with old s*** sucks especially when you have to blend it for somebody that is anal retentive
Is the room square with them out of place cuz if so just chip the plate
Instead of just saying they sand out, why not show it? It would shut them up for real.
People not in the trades just don’t get it, just because it’s old and has survived however long, does not mean it’s built well. You know what old houses have? Little to no insulation, uneven stud spacing, nothing is level or square, undersized floor joists, crumbling foundations
I like the first one. What pattern is it called?
Lol reminds me of remodeling my grandma's kitchen in her house that's over a hundred years old. The construction methods and materials was completely different back then
Should have left it alone and just add it in some framing beside of them. It had settled over time now it's going to resettle and rebus the new drywall learn to leave stuff alone Carpenters
I work on these classic old homes quite often and can say each one holds its own surprise from the last. 100+ yrs and all the different people that have dome things to them is a wonder sometimes they are still standing.
No tape on baseboards . This is not right
Love that term, " sister on".
I think the were talking about they don’t make the material like they used to. Lumber is legitimately glued together now in some cases
Working with what you got. Well done.
This is stupid and the AI voiceover makes it worse.
Accent the repairs. Wear them like armor
seems nothing much has changed over the years with new homes being built the same way
Just curious... outside fastening on the old stud but you pulled them into the BP? Since you are doubling stud regardless why pull and risk sheeting/roofline fastenings popping?
That staining was shit, since he took the tape off before it was dry...
Cape Cod Louisiana?
